This elegant black lacquer long table has a
waist decorated with the elongated begonia
done in open style carving. The top is a
solid piece of wood. The legs are straight
with large horse hoof. A humpback stretcher
is used between the legs to strengthen the
support. The table has thick black lacquer
finishes in well preserved condition. The
proportion and the craftsmanship are well
executed. This piece has very fine
proportions - the hoof, the thickness of the
legs, and the lacquer finishes are all
representative of the highest Beijing
craftsmanship. This type of furniture is
from a scholar’s home done with good taste
and more refined. There are not many
surviving examples of this type.
