This small altar table is made of peach wood which was very popular for Southern furniture as peach wood is believed by most southern Chinese to have properties which can ward off evil spirits. The spandrels are decorated in the angular cloud design. Panel legs are always used for this type of altar table so that heavier items can be put on top of the table without damaging the construction. The panel legs are decorated with Ru-yi clouds in open relief style.
